Shrink heavy PNGs into lightweight JPGs with a quality slider and a background colour for transparency — with the real before/after file sizes, right in your browser.
Convert PNG to JPG
Nothing leaves your deviceChoose a PNG above — the original and converted JPG will appear here with their exact file sizes.
How to use this converter
- Drop a PNG onto the upload box. Conversion starts immediately at your current settings.
- Set the quality. The slider runs from 50% (smallest) to 95% (highest fidelity); 85% is the sweet spot. The file re-converts automatically as you move it.
- Handle transparency. If the PNG has transparent areas, they are filled with the background colour — white by default, or any hex colour you type.
- Compare and download. Both file sizes are shown side by side; press Download JPG to save, or adjust settings to re-convert the same image.
Useful information
PNG is the right format for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or transparency — and the wrong one when the file is a photo, because lossless storage makes those files enormous. Converting to JPG is usually the single biggest size win available for PNG photos.
Choosing a quality
85% is visually excellent for almost everything. Drop toward 70% for images that live on a web page or in an email, where every hundred kilobytes counts. Push to 95% only for images with fine text or intricate detail — the savings from going lower stop being worth the visible artifacts.
Transparency, honestly
JPG cannot store transparency — it's a hard format limitation, not a setting. Transparent pixels are composited onto the background colour you choose before encoding. If transparency matters, keep PNG (or convert to WebP with the Image Compressor, which preserves it).
JPG artifacts to expect
At lower qualities you may notice halos around sharp edges and blockiness in flat areas. That's JPEG working as designed. Preview the result above at your chosen quality before downloading — what you see is what you get.
Privacy: everything happens on your device using an off-screen canvas. No upload, no server, no storage.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
Drop a PNG into the box; the tool converts it instantly with the chosen quality and background colour, then offers a side-by-side size comparison and a download button.
What happens to transparency?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick — white by default. Anything that must stay see-through should remain PNG.
What quality setting should I use?
85% suits most photos and screenshots. Lower (around 70%) shrinks the file further for the web; raise it toward 95% when fine text or detail matters. The exact byte counts update as you move the slider.
Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?
Almost always — PNG stores pixels losslessly while JPG compresses them, so screenshots and photos typically shrink dramatically. The comparison shows your real before and after numbers either way.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion runs on a canvas inside this tab — the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored or logged.
